Vererina Mattia

Venerina Mattia, 89, passed away on Saturday, October 1, 2022 at Elizabeth Church Manor Nursing Home. She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Antonio, in 2013.  She leaves behind her son and daughter-in-law, Sergio and Melinda Mattia, Newark Valley; her daughter and son-in-law, Tina and Joseph Fleury, Vestal; three grandchildren, Joseph A. (Jessica) Fleury, Reading, MA, Jessica (Frank) Greenwood and Sergio Mattia, Newark Valley; two great-grandsons; Liam Alexander Greenwood and George Cooper Fleury; along with several nieces and nephews both here and in Italy. Venerina was born in Casacanditella, Italy, on February 18, 1933 and was one of nine children.  She came to the USA in 1958 and retired after 36 years from Bates Troy.  She was a very devout Catholic and enjoyed watching Mass on EWTN and said countless numbers of rosaries daily. She loved to pray for everyone.  Her joy in life was her family and her close friends.  Special thanks to Dr. Rana Z Ahmad and the entire 3rd Floor Staff at Elizabeth Church Manor Nursing Home for their compassionate care and love. Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 6, 2022 at 9:45 am at St. Vincent De Paul Blessed Sacrament Church in Vestal, NY.  A Funeral Mass will follow at 10:30 am.  Entombment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Johnson City, NY. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Loaves & Fishes Food Pantry, in care of St. Vincent de Paul Blessed Sacrament Church, 165 Clifton Boulevard, Vestal, NY 13850.
