Virginia Terrell Obituary

Virginia Rebecca Terrell August 23, 1932-May 4, 2023 (Age 90 years) On May 4th, 2023, God opened the gates to heaven so that Ginny could be reunited with her parents Robert and Martha Mangurian, her brother Gary, sister-in-law Patricia, many dear friends, and the love of her life for 56 years, her husband William Sylvester Terrell. She is survived by her daughter Susan Brockley, son-in-law Frank, and her pride and joy - grandsons Matthew and Andrew; her son William, and daughter-in-law Renee; and her favorite dogs, Vito, Rosie, Axyl and Duncan. Ginny was a life-long resident of the Binghamton area for 90 years. She grew up on the West-side, and graduated from Binghamton Central in 1950. She met her husband “Kootch” while working at Singer-Link. They married in 1967 and made a house on Ellen Street in Chenango Bridge their family home for 50-plus years. Ginny was a supportive presence in the lives of her children and grandchildren and could always be found on various sidelines cheering for the Chenango Valley Warriors or the Bethlehem Eagles. She was well known in the community through her involvement in the Chenango Bridge Civic Association and the Town of Chenango Board of Elections. She was a member of the Tuesday Chenango Commons Women’s’ Golf League, and played golf until her 80’s. She loved a competitive game of cards (spoons), taking walks in the neighborhood, sitting on the front porch, and going to the grocery store just to say hello to the many that knew her there. Ginny was a mass greeter and devoted member of St. Paul’s Church. She was also very proud of her Armenian heritage and was a member of the St. Gregory’s Armenian Women’s Guild. Ginny was often seen in her apron, as she loved to bake for her family and friends, and her pilaf, katah and lahmajoon were always big hits. Her chocolate chip cookies and apple pie, however, will be missed the most. Ginny was a loving daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother who spent her years caring for all those that she held dearly in her heart. As her health declined, she was very grateful to the nursing and rehabilitation staff at Fairview who took care of her. She would often say “I have so many thank you notes to write.” So, on behalf of Ginny, a special thank you to you all. Thank you for keeping her smile around for as long as you did. That smile will be sorely missed. Family will receive friends at St. Paul’s Church, 282 Chenango Street, Binghamton, N.Y. on Tuesday, May 16th between 9:00 a.m.-10:00 a.m. A funeral mass will follow at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be in the Chenango Valley Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Jimmy Fund.
