Walter A. Smalanskas

Walter Smalanskas, 63, died December 29th, 2021 after a short illness brought on by Covid.

Walt was born on November 23rd, 1958 in Pittston, PA to Anthony and Rita Smalanskas. He moved to Binghamton, NY at a young age and after graduation he started his long career as a maintenance supervisor for the Binghamton school district. He also was a care giver for senior citizens, finishing his career as an associate for Lowes in Vestal NY.

On October 18th, 2008 he married Diane Beneke.  Diane passed away on February 3rd, 2019. Walt was close with his mother-n-law Marion Beneke (passed away June 26th, 2021) as they shared many holidays together.  Walt was a huge fan of classic cars and he and Diane would enjoy attending car shows with the Cruisin Buddies group where he could show off his 1958 Ford Edsel.    

He is survived by his girlfriend Denise Orshal, sister in-law and husband Christine & Stephen Leahy, brother in-law Craig Beneke, sister Michele Finnegan and his best friend Timothy Canfield.  In addition, Walt was very fond of his cats and dogs and they will truly miss him.

Forever in our hearts, you will be missed.

At Walter’s request there will be no funeral services.  Any donations can be made to the Humane Society or any local animal shelter in his memory.
