William E. Phillips

William E. "Bill" Phillips, 84, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 2, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born on July 12, 1941, Bill lived a life defined by hard work, integrity, service, and unwavering devotion to his family. He was loved beyond words and will be dearly missed, forever remembered, and always loved.

Bill was predeceased by his parents, William and Jane Phillips, his stepmother, Helen Phillips and Mother & Father-In-Law Anna & Tony Darcangelo.

He leaves behind his beloved wife of 59 years, Suzanne (Darcangelo) Phillips, who was the love of his life. He is also survived by his loving children: Bill (Michelle) Phillips, Kevin (Landis) Phillips, and Lori (Bill) Davis; his cherished grandchildren, Ryan, Alexis, Kaileigh, Connor, Andy, Lindsay, and Jason; and his brothers, Richard, Burton, James, and Gary. Bill's greatest joy was his family, and he took immense pride in watching each generation grow.

A proud entrepreneur, Bill founded Air Temp Heating & Air Conditioning, Inc., building a highly respected business and enjoying a long and successful career in the heating and air conditioning industry. He was a dedicated 61-year member of Plumbers & Pipefitters Local 112 and remained actively involved throughout his career. Bill was also a longtime member of the Broome County Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors Association (PHCC), serving as Past President of the New York State PHCC, and was an active member of the Southern Tier Mechanical Contractors Association. His leadership, professionalism, and commitment to the trades earned him the respect and admiration of colleagues across the state.

Bill proudly served his country in the United States Navy aboard the USS Skywatcher, where he completed boilermaker training to become a certified boilermaker. During his military service, he served in Cuban waters and was awarded numerous medals in recognition of his dedication and service to the nation.

Outside of work, Bill embraced life to the fullest. He treasured summers spent at the family's cottage on DeRuyter Lake, where countless memories were made with family and friends. During the winter months, he enjoyed his condo in Florida, where he looked forward to spending time with friends and participating in his weekly golf league. Whether on the golf course, at the lake, or simply surrounded by those he loved, Bill found happiness in the moments shared with others.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday July 9th at 11:00 AM at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 192 Court Street, Binghamton, New York.  Family and friends are invited to gather from 9:30 AM until the beginning of the mass.  Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City, NY. 

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in Bill’s memory may be made to the American Heart Association or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Bill's legacy lives on through the family he cherished, the business he built, the lives he touched, and the example he set through a lifetime of hard work, kindness, and service. He was loved beyond words by his family and will be dearly missed and forever held in their hearts.
