Peter Yezzi

Peter Yezzi passed away peacefully in his sleep on November 29, 2019.  He was born on October 15, 1924 in Roccomontepiano Italy and immigrated to the United States with his family at the age of thirteen.  He proudly became an American citizen and enlisted in the Army at age eighteen where he taught winter survival training in the 10th Mountain Division.  Upon honorable discharge, Peter returned to Binghamton where he married his first wife, the love of his life Mary Cocchiara and had one son.  He worked hard all his life, 35 years at Kroehler's furniture manufacturer in Binghamton and after retiring and moving to Florida, 15 years with Great Western Bank. 
In his next life, Peter will join his parents Antonio and Irene (Mancini) Yezzi; his brothers, Nicolo, John, Mauro and George Yezzi; sister Leondina (Yezzi) as well as his wives, Mary (Cocchiara) and Hazel (Zawtsos) Yezzi.  He leaves behind one son Joseph (Peg) Yezzi; grandsons Jonah (Kelly) Yezzi and Alex (Stephanie) Yezzi and the lights of his existence, great grandchildren Rocco Henry Yezzi, Stella Noelle Yezzi and newborn Primo Yezzi.  He also leaves behind best friend and sister in law, Nancy Yezzi and good friend Carol Peck.  He will long be remembered by his cherished nephews, nieces, their spouses and children as "Uncle Pete." 
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Lourdes Hospice and all the staff at Ideal Living Center, especially Megan (a.k.a. "Sarge") and Nicole from Assisted Living and Suzanne and Sharon from Skilled Nursing.  Every staff member who cared for Peter left a lasting impression of kindness and compassion. 
And lastly, the family would like to thank the staff at the Binghamton and Syracuse VA.  Their unwavering dedication and willingness to go above and beyond the call of duty provided Peter with all the supports needed to maintain his dignity and independence for as long as possible. 
A Funeral Mass will be held at 9:30am on December 7, 2019 as St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Binghamton.  Additionally, for those wishing to pay their respects, there will be calling hours from 4:00pm to 7:00pm on Friday, December 6, 2019 at the THOMAS J. SHEA FUNERAL HOME, INC., 137 Robinson St., Binghamton.  In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Twin Tier Honor Flights, an organization which honors armed services veterans, at P.O. Box 1770 Binghamton, NY 13902.  Arrangements are in the care of Albert J. DeMarco.
