Normand Prindle

Normand C. Prindle, 93, of Afton, passed away at his home on June 10, 2021.  He is survived by his wife of nearly 73 years, Paula (Galloway), and surviving children Debra (Arthur) Darrow, Bainbridge; Derek Prindle, Afton; Denise Winans, Afton; and Dana (Keith) Avery of Endicott, along with his grandchildren David and Stephen Winans, Chelsea and Michael Sprague, and Laila Ann Prindle.  Also his great-grandchildren Keegan and Kendall Winans, Amelia and Nolan Winans, and Rowan Sprague.  Also, his sister Janice Williams, several nieces and nephews as well has his four-legged buddy, Tyson. Normand was pre-deceased by his parents Clifford and Frieda Prindle, his sister Elaine Nunn, his infant daughter Laurie L. Prindle and his beloved grandson Derek D. Prindle.  Norm, a World War II veteran, left Sidney High School after his junior year to join the U.S. Navy and later joined the Seabees.  He served in Saipan and Taiwan in the South Pacific.  After the war, he returned to Sidney and eventually met “the new girl in town” on New Year’s Eve and married her on July 30, 1948.  Norm was working on the East Sidney Dam at the time of his marriage and in 1949 he joined the Operating Engineers Local 410 where he began a 43-year career as a crane operator. Norm was instrumental in setting the steel for many of the buildings and bridges in Binghamton, New York and throughout the triple cities.  He loved his job and that job took him all over the state of New York as well as the states of Connecticut, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.  He was well respected and widely known for his skills and devotion, to not only his job, but for the men he worked with.  Throughout his career he was employed with several local construction companies, including but not limited to William Lane, John Hagopian Contractors and Binghamton Steel Erectors.  After his retirement he enjoyed gardening, bird watching, spending hours working on his wood pile, and traveling with his wife to New England and their favorite B&B’s.  Norm was a loving and caring husband and father who enjoyed spending time with his family and drinking coffee, and more coffee!  He especially enjoyed the family gatherings and holiday celebrations.  The family would like to thank Lourdes Hospice for their care and support during this difficult time.  A special thank you to Crystal for the care and respect she showed to Norm every day.  A Celebration of Norm’s life will be held at a later date for his family and close friends.  Remembrances in his name may be made to Project Paw, 127 Bevier Street, Binghamton, NY 13904, Lourdes Hospice, 4102 Vestal Road, Vestal, NY 13850, or an animal charity of your choice.
