Robert G. Matthews

Robert (Bob) G. Matthews, 82, of Kirkwood, NY died at home June 2, 2022 after a long battle with many medical challenges.  He was predeceased by his parents Gordon and Charlotte (Hilbert) Matthews, brother Samuel Matthews and sister Elayne Weber.  Bob is survived by his loving, caring wife Laura M. (Ackley) Matthews, his “BK”. His son Robert and Karin Matthews, Willow Spring, NC and his daughter Kelly and David Cunningham, Benson NC.  Two grandchildren that he simply adored Nadia H. Matthews and Bobby A. Matthews of Willow Spring, NC. Sister Karyl Lee Sullivan, Concord, NC and brother Wayne Matthews, Johnson City, NY and many nieces and nephews.  
Bob retired from his own business L& M Tool of Windsor, NY that he started with his good friend Tim Lake. Bob was a Marine Corp. Veteran and a former Deacon at The First Congregational Church.  Bob’s passions were hunting, fishing, gardening and watching all sports, especially Nascar and the Yankees.  Bob will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, especially his special friend Steve St. Clair.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, 10:30am to 11:30am at the THOMAS J. SHEA FUNERAL HOME, INC., 137 Robinson St. Binghamton.  A Memorial Service will follow at 11:30 with Military Honors.   In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy can be made in Bob’s memory to The Humane Society, 167 Conklin Road, Binghamton, NY 13903.
